About Highland Support Project
For several years, Aldersgate has also supported Highland Support Project, sending mission teams the past two summers. A youth mission trip and a separate adult mission trip are scheduled for July 2009.
HSP is an Advance Special of the United Methodist Church and is based in the Virginia Conference. HSP serves the poor indigenous Maya of the Guatemala Highlands through women's empowerment and community organizing, entrepeneurial development, children's arts education and transformational service trips. HSP is dedicated to providing transformational mission experiences for both its volunteers and the people they serve. For more than ten years now, HSP has led hundreds of volunteers on life-changing service trips to the developing world. Volunteers from North America learn, work, and share with people in Latin America, forming true partnerships of understanding and compassion. While performing meaningful service in communities of need, volunteers provide invaluable assistance to those less fortunate than themselves materially. In return, the people of the developing world offer volunteers unique insights and perspectives that help North Americans to better understand themselves and their world.
